The final U-S ground forces leave Vietnam. And the bank robbery that inspires the movie Dog Day Afternoon takes place in Brooklyn, New York. On the radio, Argent hits the Top 5 with “Hold Your Head Up.” Keyboardist-songwriter Rod Argent takes us into the studio.

It’s August 1970. In the month that Janis Joplin, Paul Simon, Steppenwolf and John Sebastian headline a 12-hour “concert for peace” at New York’s Shea Stadium, Eric Clapton’s first solo album, with “After Midnight,” hits stores. Uni Records signs up-and-coming British rocker Elton John. And Edwin Starr (who passed away in 2003) hits number-one with the protest song “War.” The music scene was different than in the ’60s, when Lloyd Thaxton hosted T-V’s top syndicated daily dance show.
