Al: reunite just one for the Gipper!

The first step toward a [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beach Boys[/lastfm] reunion will take place today! That’s when Al Jardine will play with Mike Love and his current Beach Boys lineup at an event honoring the 100th birthday of the late president Ronald Reagan.

Jardine calls it the right occasion — the band has long been friendly with the Reagan family. To play at the Reagan Library “shows respect to them.” He adds with the Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary occurring this year, “It seems like the right time to show some solidarity… within the band. It’s a good sign for the fans.” However, it will not be a complete reunion of the original surviving members as Brian Wilson‘s manager tells us he won’t be there.

The Ronald Reagan Centennial Birthday Celebration Concert, with co-stars including Lonestar and Lee Greenwood, takes place Saturday evening at 7 p.m. PT at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. It will be streamed online

If you’ve ever seen a Beach Boy’s concert years ago, and compare it to a Beach Boy’s concert today, you will undoubtedly notice the difference. The difference is Al Jardine. Nobody can fill that void. NOBODY! Without Al, a Beach Boy’s concert isn’t the same. They absolutely need him and the spirit he brings to the stage.

Also missing are the faces of the backup band we have come to know throughout the time of their popularity. The members that made that quality of music associated with what the Beach Boy’s are known for. Billy Hinshe, Bobby Figureoa, and Ed Carter (Mike Meros, RIP) are the members us faithful Beach Boy’s fans have come to know and love. They were there during the Beach Boy’s times when it was vocals as well as musical strength that thrust the group into history. A 50th reunion without these guys just won’t be the same. Especially if the Beach Boy’s truley want to sound as good as they use to.

Al, Billy, Bobby, and Ed, are the backbone and spirit of the band in conjunction with Mike & Bruce.
