He should be. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Freddy Cannon[/lastfm] was pleased to learn that a recent article in the record collector’s magazine Goldmine named him and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Gary U.S. Bonds[/lastfm] as deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

Exclusive via Mike McCann: “What it states is exactly true. How long are they going to wait? Are they waiting for someone to die, before someone gets in there from the ’50s and ’60s era.”

The voice of hits such as “Tallahassee Lassie,” “Action” and the summertime classic “Palisades Park” feels he’s often unfairly lumped with “the Bobbys and the Frankies,” teen idols whose more pop-than-rock sound was one aspect of the years between [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Buddy Holly[/lastfm]’s death and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beatles[/lastfm]’ arrival.

Cannon prefers to be placed in the company of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Roy Orbison[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Del Shannon[/lastfm]. “Listen to the records I made. I made raw rock and roll records, they weren’t cute or pretty.”

Thanks again to Mike McCann for this exclusive interview. ~JZ.
