Pete Townshend Calls iTunes A “Digital Vampire”

At sixty-six years old, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Pete Townshend[/lastfm] may be bashing fewer and fewer guitars on stage, but he’s not above bashing and biting the most important hand that feeds today’s music industry: iTunes…

Speaking in Manchester, England on Monday, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Who[/lastfm] guitarist lashed out at the online behemoth, suggesting the online retailer could do more to help the artists it profits from.

“Is there really any good reason why, just because iTunes exists in the wild west internet land of Facebook and Twitter, it can’t provide some aspect of these services to the artists whose work it bleeds like a digital vampire…for its enormous commission?” he asked.

Pete added that iTunes should hire 20 talent scouts “from the dying record business” to help emerging acts with financial and marketing support. ~JZ.
