The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is adding the backing groups of six first-generation rock stars to their rosters.

Via Rolling Stone: here’s the list: [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Blue Caps[/lastfm] ([lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Gene Vincent[/lastfm]), [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Comets[/lastfm] ([lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bill Haley[/lastfm]), [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Crickets[/lastfm] ([lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Buddy Holly[/lastfm]), [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Famous Flames[/lastfm] ([lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]James Brown[/lastfm]), [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Midnighters[/lastfm] ([lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Hank Ballard[/lastfm]) and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Miracles[/lastfm] ([lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Smokey Robinson[/lastfm]).

When superstars are inducted, their bandmates are sometimes left in the dust.

The Hall of Fame’s failure to induct the Miracles along with Smokey Robinson in ’87 was a particularly sore spot. Hall of Fame rules state that artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their debut release. At the time, Robinson had been a solo artist for only 14 years, hence, why not induct [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]SMOKEY ROBINSON & THE MIRACLES[/lastfm]? It’s good they’re making this right.

The six groups will be inducted April 14th at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s annual ceremony at Cleveland’s Public Hall. Also being inducted at this year’s ceremony: [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beastie Boys[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Donovan[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Guns N’ Roses[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Laura Nyro[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Red Hot Chili Peppers[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Small Faces[/lastfm]/[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Faces[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Freddie King[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Don Kirshner[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cosimo Matassa[/lastfm][lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tom Dowd[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Glyn Johns[/lastfm].
