In an idea literally taken from Mel Brooks’ 1987 comedy classic, Spaceballs, a Chinese Billionaire has launched a line of canned fresh air collected from various parts of China and Taiwan.

The Nation is reporting that Chen Guangbiao, a famous Chinese businessman and philanthropist, has started the product called “Chen Guangbiao: Nice Guy” and he sells the cans for about $.80.

This is all in an effort to raise money and awareness about China’s serious air pollution problem.

“One only has to open the can, directly ‘drink’ it or put the nose close to the can to breathe deeply,” Guangbiao said about his product.

Guangbiao also noted that there is a chip put into each can, and during the “canning process”, when the negative oxygen ions reach a certain concentration the chip is triggered and the can is sealed.

Chen first announced his big idea back in August, but it received some negative feedback from Internet users who accused the philanthropist of showing off and questioned his right to sell the air, since it doesn’t really belong to him.

The Billionaire sold out of his first 100,000 cans in only a matter of days. Which proves people really do want to help the environment, or maybe it was Guangbiao’s promise to buy back empty cans in 10 years for about $7 a can.

Whatever the reason Guangbaio is confident in his product. He joked that lots of people in big cities are inhaling air mixed with all kinds of pollutants and they must be dying for a breath of fresh air.
