Tom Landry gave up on the Cowboys after he got “Jones-ed”.

That’s according to a new book called “The Last Cowboy: A Life of Tom Landry” that’s coming out today.

The author says Landry never got over how Jerry Jones treated him. His widow, Alicia says Landry became a Giants fan in his last years. Alicia Landry also claims that Jones took away the Landry family’s suite at since-demolished Texas Stadium and barred Landry’s son, Tom Jr., without explanation from continuing to buy Cowboys season tickets.

Are any other Cowboys fans mad about this?

Why do people feel the need to “tell the truth” about things?

This is one of those times where it more upsetting to fans than anything else. It’s not like you’re getting back at Jerry Jones. You’re just hurting the die hard Cowboy fans…the ones that idolized Tom Landry. A little white lie never hurt anyone.

Jody’s thoughts…

I have no idea why Mrs. Landry would want to bring that up, either. I know Mrs. Landry, and I knew her husband. I emceed Coach’s 75th birthday party – his last public appearance. Landry deserves almost every great thing that was ever said about him, but he was also human – and he played his dismissal up brilliantly. I really don’t want to tell those tales about Landry, but fair is fair. Landry let himself be portrayed as a martyr – and curtly refused Jones’ Ring of Honor invitation for ten years. Landry had already soured on the Cowboys thanks to minority owner Ed Smith, who campaigned loudly to have him replaced long before Jones arrived – and Bum Bright. Bright was an Aggie who hated ex-Longhorn Landry, and thought him a hypocrite. Truth is, Landry frequently could be. If a guy could play, Landry often overlooked horrendous behavior, and his quotes on accepting the Ring and forgiving Jones were more than a bit manipulative. But seriously, all players are always a fan of the team they PLAYED for – even if they end up coaching for somebody else. I would EXPECT him to root for New York.
