When I heard a while back that Barry Gibb was hitting the road for a short solo tour, well, it was bittersweet to say the least. I wondered if he’d ever performed solo before – yes, but very infrequently. Almost inseparable from his band of brothers, despite his songwriting and producing for others, Barry says his heart was never in making records on his own.
His mother and wife told him to get off his behind, and his Mythology tour kicked off Friday night in Boston.
Barry’s band includes son Stephen and niece Samantha, and the show of course pays tribute to all the Brothers Gibb: Maurice, Robin and Andy.
He chose Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire,” to acknowledge Bruce’s cover of “Staying Alive” in Melbourne last month. The 33-song set list included Bee Gees hits: Tragedy,” “I Started A Joke” and “Jive Talkin” and hits he wrote: “Islands In The Stream” and “Grease.”
Sing along with him here. The crowd did!
Hopefully he’ll make his way to Texas soon.
