U.S. Marine Jack Bernardo came home to quite the surprise.
After more than two decades of service and recently being stationed in Japan, Bernardo was really ready to just be home.
However, when he got there…he didn’t recognize his house.
His friend Jeremy Epperson, the Jimmy Doolittle Center, and numerous contractors and volunteers basically gave him a brand new house. They redid the floors and the kitchen, painted, and gave him all new landscaping. And they did it all in 10 days.
As sweet as this part of the story is, Bernardo’s reaction is even better. Bernardo said he was undeserving of this gift, started crying, and dedicated to all the men he’s fought with that didn’t make it back.
