Over two dozen stars have come together on a new version of The Beach Boys classic “God Only Knows.” It had its world premiere on Britain’s BBC Tuesday night.
The recording, which will be used by the BBC to launch a new initiative called BBC Music, features the song’s composer, Brian Wilson, plus Sir Elton John, One Direction, Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, Chris Martin, Dave Grohl, Chrissie Hynde, Brian May, Lorde, Emeli Sande, Sam Smith, Florence Welch, Jake Bugg and Kylie Minogue.
The song will be released as a single in the U.K., with proceeds going to the BBC’s Children in Need charity.
This isn’t the first all-star recording the BBC has initiated. Seventeen years ago a slew of stars came together on Lou Reed‘s “Perfect Day” to raise funds for the same cause. Sir Elton is the only artist to appear on both records.
Nice to see “We Are The World” from the 80s continues rubbing off in a great way.
