And The #1 Christmas Day Injury Is…Unwrapping Gifts With Sharp Objects

Tis the season for Emergency Room visits.

Who knew Christmas and the month of December was such a plethora for injuries? Specifically injuries caused by decorations, trees, stockings, and/or opening gifts!

If we break it down, over the entire month of December, the number one cause for injury comes directly from your Christmas decorations. People either hurt themselves while putting up the decor or taking it down. That covers everything from falling off a stool to electric shock from Christmas lights to stepping on a broken ornament.

Moving on to the number two cause for injury…the tree itself. That covers everything from trimming the tree with a chainsaw or knife to falling while trying to take your tree out to the curb.

Up next to take the third spot are injuries related to opening or wrapping gifts. Sadly, gift injuries take the top spot for ER visits on Christmas Day. Why? Because people have a tendency to use sharp objects when opening presents, like knives, scissors, etc.
