Anonymous Man Donates $150,000 To Dallas ISD Teachers Who Go Above and Beyond

Recently, an anonymous donor contacted one of Dallas ISD’s nonprofit partners, Commit, wanting to do something special for Dallas ISD teachers who are making a difference at school, and (7) campuses in the Accelerating Campus Excellence initiatve (Blanton, Mills, Pease and Umphrey Lee elementary schools, plus Dade, Edison and Zumwalt middle schools were chosen, according to The Dallas Morning News.

During Dade Middle School’s “Teacher Appreciation Celebration” pep rally in the gym with cheerleaders, a step team, and a video montage of students thanking their favorite teachers, Dade principle Tracie Washington put the event on pause to deliver a Holiday Season greeting to her staff.

Here is where the Hollywood-like moment began!

Washington said, “Secret Santa has been watching you”–“And he’s been very impressed.”

Washington then suggested her staff look under their chairs, which were in the middle of the gym.

The teachers… found a note expressing appreciation for them… and a $400 Target Gift Card!

Martin Obinyan, a 7th grade math teacher pumped his fist in the air, hugged nearby teachers, and immediately thought of his students, versus himself, saying “It’s amazing” — “It means more things to put in the classroom, more instructional posters, markers, whiteboards for them … and maybe one or two Christmas gifts for my sisters.”

ACE executive director Jolee Healey said, “It’s really incredible, because teachers — across the nation — spend so much of their time and money to make their own classrooms an inspiring place” — “So, this donation will help refresh for the spring.” The ACE program uses stipends to attract a portion of of the district’s best teachers and administrators to it’s most challenged campuses and has shown significant improvements in only one school year.

Over 300 teachers, counselors, instructional coaches and librarians received a $400 Target gift card, including 75 at Dade.

The anonymous donor’s $150,000 gift made it possible to share the gift of giving to these teachers who give the gift of knowledge, daily.

Salute, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ALL teachers who go above and beyond.
