What direction the sequel will go has not been released at this time.

What is known is Universal, which co-produced Gladiator, has the option to be involved as co-financiers.

In addition, American novelist and screenwriter Peter Craig will write the script. Craig's credentials include The Town (starring Ben Affleck and Aaron Stockard), having adapted the screenplays for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 & 2 with Danny Strong, and currently re-imagining the 1976 movie Logan's Run for Warner Bros. and Top Gun: Maverick.

After an 18-year wait, hope a Gladiator sequel isn't too late for fans of the original.
